It's written for ExpertGPS, but applies to GeoBuddy and EasyGPS as well.

Being a complete geo newbie (actually purchased GeoBuddy before my GPS receiver, an eTrex legend HCx), I see many features in the program, but am fumbling along trying to get core operations started. I'd suggest that a tutorial oriented to basic operaitons for a GPS/GeoBuddy newbie would be a great help for someone like me.

If you are not already familiar with the Groundspeak (http://forums.groundspeak.com) forums, you should check those out and look for information on premium content and PQ's. If you are not a premium member, you only get basic data. If you are a premium member, the GPX files contain lots of information for programs like GeoBuddy to handle/display. So Groundspeak will be helpful for one side of the equation.

I am trying to evaluate this software and determine its usefullness to me as a hiker and fisherman. Are there tutorials available that will help me understand how to use the software with my GPS and what it will do for me.

I have struggled importing state of Maine GIS data, like roads, lakes, etc. I found some terminology and fields confusing, as they relate to ExprtGPS fields. Also, is there a way to extract the data from a small area of a state rather than the whole state.
A tutorial using a simple, real life example would help me.
Thanks,
Tom

How to convert from tracks to routes? Because most published routes are "tracks": how do I convert these to route(s) and how can I send these to my GPS. Do I also need to send the waypoints? etc.

I work at an engineering firm so scanning this large map is not a problem. Any advice to quickly and accurately do this would be appreciated!

I want plug the gps into a laptop and see my position a topo map and also pull up waypoints or routes i entered from the home computer. I've found i can track with garmins nroute program, but i cant import any waypoints, so i need to go back and forth between nroute and mapsource maps.
I remember liking the gpsexpert maps better than what i have, but couldnt figure out how to use them offline that well. Could i just download the whole state of colorado's topo's and aerial info?
Ultimately i'd like to get land ownership on the map also. Like the blm's geocomunicator program if youve ever used it, but something i can access without internet.

Dan, is there a concise tutorial for Geobuddy? I have downloaded the trial version several times and I see it as the best tool for my Explorist 500 but with out a viable tutorial I get lost and frustrated and delete it and go about trying to find a tool that will work for me.
At first all I want to do is load a map of my region and post some caches but I can't seem to get started. Help me out please.

Yes, I'm lost. I have a Lowrence XOG. I looked up what seemed to be a configuration for this GPS, but the menu items were wrong. (At least I couldn't find them.) I'm fairly new to this GGPS, but I'm wanting to learn. I've been using it to find ghost towns and other places in NV and CA. I'm afraid I need someone to take me by the hand and lead me through the beginning use of your program.

Is there a tutorial for "laying down" a route/track on a map?
