GETTING STARTED

2 posts in this topic

As someone who is new to EXPERTGPS and mapping software in general I am hoping someone can step me through the processes. I am hoping to display West Australian geological maps,

currently obtainable in PDF format, on my GARMIN MAP62S so that i can see where i am on the ground in relation to the geology.. The maps are provided by the Mines Dept

of Western Australia. Also is it possible to overlay the geology with mining tenements which are in the form of  shape files (.shp files) If this is possible I would also need some help to

load this into the GARMIN 62S

ExpertGPS Pro can't import PDF directly. What I do is zoom the PDF to 300% or so, and take a large screenshot. Then, calibrate the screenshot map in ExpertGPS.

You can then import the shapefile and overlay it on the PDF.

Your Garmin GPSMAP 62s supports Custom Maps, so you can click Send Map to GPS on the GPS menu, and send the calibrated basemap with your GIS data over the top to your GPS as a custom image.
